It was the first of nine films made by Lugosi for Sam Katzman of Monogram Pictures, but it's director Joseph H. Lewis (Gun Crazy, The Big Combo) who elevates this low budget potboiler into something memorable. Aided by veteran cinematographers Harvey Gould and Marcel Le Picard, Lewis creates the perfect atmosphere for this
