This is a tropical tree but it can be successfully grown in areas of Brisbane and the Gold Coast so long as it is not exposed to frost and is protected from extreme cold and windy conditions

With only approximately 30 trees are left remaining in the wild of Northern NSW this endangered species is attracting quite a bit of attention both amongst the bush food enthusiast and the conservationists

Widely known as "Lou Mai Chee"

Wood apple fruit can be eaten plain or made into jams and sweets

This vigorous herbaceous plant produces large tubers similar in appearance to sweet potatoes. but with a much sweeter taste and crunchy flesh. An extremely hardy perennial growing in hot or cold conditions. however the foliage will die back in time for harvest during winter and re shoot in the spring.
